Education

Prior to the establishment of the first school in Kakopetria, before 1900, the children used to attend the school of the neighbouring village of Galata. As senior residents of Kakopetria report, some children were taught at the village by Christofis Gabriel who lived near the church.

The first school operated around the end of the 19th century, in 1895 in particular and it was housed in the old olive-mill building located near the church.

Later, in 1960, the new primary school building was constructed near the square. Nowadays, the same building houses the Regional Primary School of Kakopetria. During the school year 2007-2008, the school was attended by 84 children, which were allocated in 6 classes.

What is worth mentioning is that during the first months after the Turkish invasion the school was used as a shelter by approximately 150 refugees and that immediately afterwards the number of students increased significantly, this resulting in the operation of a second primary school in our village.
